Together, we can shape a brighter future for Mumbai’s underprivileged children.

In a small village in Jalgaon, Shashikant Patil grew up surrounded by warmth, nourishment, and education despite facing hardships. While his childhood was filled with love and support from his family, he witnessed firsthand the stark reality of underprivileged and malnourished children who struggled to survive. These early experiences left an indelible mark on him—a deep desire to give back and create opportunities for those who had been left behind. Although young, he dreamed of a future where every child could enjoy the benefits he once had.

Over time, Shashikant built trust among the slum communities, gradually becoming a part of their lives and understanding their daily struggles.

After moving to Mumbai and beginning his career as an English teacher, Shashikant continued to work closely with children, nurturing their futures with education and guidance. However, it was in 2016 during a survey of Mumbai’s slums that he encountered the grim conditions in which many children lived. The survey revealed heartbreaking stories: parents unable to feed their children, kids for whom going to school was an unattainable luxury, and communities where malnutrition and neglect were the norm. This eye-opening experience spurred him to take action and redefined his life’s mission.

He listened to the worries of parents who feared for their children’s future, including the tearful pleas of a single mother desperate for help with her three kids. These encounters convinced him that something needed to change. Motivated by compassion and determination, he founded Ahirani May Marathi Pratishthan—a Mumbai-based NGO dedicated to providing shelter, nutritious meals, education, and medical care to over 100 children from the most impoverished backgrounds. Here, children who once roamed the streets and survived on discarded food now enjoy the safety and warmth of a home, rediscovering their childhood and hope for a better future.

Despite the tremendous impact of this initiative, sustaining the shelter remains a significant challenge. Shashikant has been using his modest salary and personal savings to support the organization, but the growing needs of these children demand much more. The struggle to secure consistent donors and resources such as groceries, medicines, and hygiene kits continues to weigh heavily on him. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help ensure that these children receive the care and support they desperately need. We urge you to join this noble cause—your generosity can transform lives and build a future where every child has the opportunity to flourish.
